For those interested in photographing birds, this is a day trip for you! Itinerary will be
distributed when we gather on Wednesday, April 11, in the Sundial parking lot near the Bocce
Ball Court at 7:00 A.M. Bring: cameras, binoculars, sun tan lotion, hat, water…. picnic lunch
optional… or we just might can find a local “roadhouse” where we can get some vittles.
While on a similar trip with the Sun City Birding Club, a few Camera Guild members saw trees
dripping with yellow-headed blackbirds, areas on the side of the road where burrowing owls
raise their young, and cormorants, pelicans, and humans fishing at a historical dam site. Catch
of the day? Tilapia!! You will hear a lot of secretive birds calling from within the swamp; other
birds may be found right there along the open field where there’s a small canal. (Attached
photos by Camera Guild member Nicky MacIntosh.)
The Arlington Wildlife Area (AWA) is located along the west bank of the Gila River
approximately 3.5 miles south of Arlington and 15 miles southwest of Buckeye in Maricopa
County. Directions will be provided. Note: total travel distance will be close to 100-miles
roundtrip (nearly a two-hour roundtrip drive). Any questions? Call Cheri Kennedy
