BEYOND SELFIES 1 - Cell Phone Photography (today)
Learn to create outstanding portraits, beautiful flowing long exposures, great action shots, stunning panoramas, and so much more with that little device that you always carry in your pocket or purse.  IMPORTANT: A Minimum Enrollment of 5 is needed for each Class to occur.

OVERVIEW OF ALL CLASSES

Becoming a great photographer is no longer solely delegated to the realm of large cameras with multiple expensive lenses, bulky tripods and computers with large monitor screen.  Now you can do great things photographically with only a smart phone and a tablet.  This series of classes was created to share the joys of photographic creativity, effectiveness, and portability using just these devices.

Any smart phone regardless of age and manufacturer can be used for these classes.  Please bring a fully charged phone to each class.  Tablets are recommended for photo editing classes 2 & 4 for ease in manipulating images.  Classes may be taken in any order, but the the second Photo Editing class should be taken before the fourth Advanced Photo Editing class.

Lari Ott has been teaching these classes since 2015, continually updating class information as cell phone & tablet technology evolves.  All classes are interactive and each class is approximately three hours in length.

BEYOND SELFIES 1 - Cell Phone Photography

Rapidly evolving cell phone technology produces photos that are now on par or better than those produced by conventional mid-level cameras thanks to AI.  In most instances, photos created with smart phone cameras are easier to set up, use, and edit.  You just need to know where and how to access your phone’s many hidden remarkable features.  Come prepared to create outstanding portraits, beautiful long exposures, great action shots, and so much more on that little device that you always carry in your pocket or purse.

BEYOND SELFIES 2 - Photo Editing

Smart phones now contain powerful in-camera or in-phone editing capabilities.  But don’t stop there! Using the Google SnapSeed app you can do so much more like creating double exposures, adding creative effects, changing perspective, getting rid of imperfections, adding text and mats to photos, and so much more in an extremely easy to use app.  Prior to class download the free Google SnapSeed app on your phone or tablet directly from the Apple or Android store.  Bring photos of a landscape, a person’s face, an off-center geometric object, and a textured scene on your charged phone or tablet.

BEYOND SELFIES 3 - Perceptual Composition

Do your finished photos match the artistic vision and the emotional appeal that you envisioned when you first took those shots?  Do others find your photos as appealing as you do?  Explore ways that you can minimize the MISmatch between your perception and the perceptions of your viewers and enhance their appeal.  Are you able to shoot and technically edit photos, but not necessarily increase its emotional appeal and sense of depth?  Your camera phone will be used to record your own perceptions to apply composition techniques in new ways.

BEYOND SELFIES 4 - Advanced Photo Editing

All editing programs typically apply edits to all of a photograph.  But composition and perception tells us that if only a particular area is changed rather than the whole scene, the photo will have greater appeal.  To target a specific area you need to be able to understand layers and masking.  This type of targeted editing can be achieved in the simple, easy to use Google SnapSeed app.  The method is simple, but can be carried out in so many different ways like replacing colors and backgrounds, combining images, and altering photos in creative ways.  Participants MUST be experienced users of SnapSeed.

BRING TO ALL CLASSES 

Bring your tablet with Procreate or SketchBook already installed from your App Store for a one-time nominal fee.  Pre-load your edited photo ready for framing onto your tablet and along with your frame dimensions.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR CLASSES

Please register below if you are going to attend this class and select “I will go to this event .”  If you later determine you cannot attend this event, please sign into the website and use the same process and select “I will NOT go to this event” so the space will be available to others.

IMPORTANT: A Minimum Enrollment of 5 is needed for each Class to occur.

Fee: $15.00 for each class.

Class size: Limited to 24 people for each class.
