Discovery Lab / Multi-Exposure Photography

On Wednesday, March 27^th, starting at 1:30, Bill George and Dan Evander will moderate an open discussion on multi-exposure photography. This “Discovery Lab” is open to all (no need to sign up) and will be held in our clubroom. Discovery labs are also designed for you to share with the rest of us, your experience, hints and techniques.

There are many situations when taking more than a single exposure of a subject and then blending the exposures as part of a post-processing procedure can give you results that are otherwise impossible to achieve with any single-image technique. For instance:

• Archiving sharp focus of a landscape from subjects that are inches from the camera to mountains miles away (focus stacking).
• Obtaining/rendering detail in the extremely dark all the way through the bright highlights of an image (HDR).
• Capturing super detail of super high or wide images that far exceed your lens’ specifications (panorama).
• Stacking of images for astrophotography to reveal nebula and planetary objects.
• Stacking of images when using a microscope or macro lens to increase depth of field.
• Duplicating special photography effects like the Brenizer method. 

In many cases, these can be done hand-held, although the use of a tripod even other mechanical aids will improve results
