Grab & Go / Madera Canyon - Tubac

Trip to Madera Canyon, Az & surrounding area.... Tubac, Sabino Canyon, San Xavier Del Bac, etc....

You can make this a 1 to 2 night trip or just go for the day, though it would be a long day! It is approx a 3 hour drive to Madera Canyon. On day 1 we will rendevous at the picnic area of Madera Canyon between 11:00 & 11:30..... Bring a picnic. We can socialize before exploring the Canyon. Birding & Hiking after lunch....bring water, good walking shoes & of course extra batteries and memory cards....

Fee: is $8.00  or America the Beautiful Pass....

  Madera Canyon lies on the northwest face of the Santa Rita Mountains. Its higher elevation grants relief to desert dwellers during the hot months and allows access to snow during the winter. A world-renowned location for bird watching, Madera Canyon is a major resting place for migrating species, while the extensive trail system of the Santa Rita Mountains is easily accessed from the Canyon’s campground and picnic areas. Madera Canyon has a long and colorful history. 

Get there: South on I-10 to I-19... Turn east off of I-19 at the Continental Exit 63. Follow the signs to Whitehouse Canyon Road and on to the Forest boundary, about 11 miles.

Also at Madera canyon is the Secret Watterfall....

• Start out on the paved trail from Proctor parking lot . 
• Make your way about 200 to 300 yards down the trail. 
• Look for an opening in trees on the right (shown below) and take that trail down toward the creek.
• The sound of the fall gets louder and louder as you descend the trail.
• As you get close to the creek, watch for a dogleg turn to your right and follow it downstream.

Day 2 or on your way home stop at:

Tubac for arts & crafts....About 3 miles south of Tubac on on the frontage road is Mission Tumacácori....(national park)

Sabino Canyon in North Tucson or San Xavier Del Bac just south of Tucson...
