CAR POOL LOCATION: Sundial Recreation Center, Meet at 0645, depart at 0700 for

both trips. TRAVEL TIME: Appx. 2 Hour

This trip is scheduled for two separate days to accommodate those who work weekdays but would like to participate in a Grab-N-Go. It also allows others to avoid the hectic weekend traffic driving to and from the Phoenix area if they so desire.

The Gold King Mine came into existence near Jerome, Arizona in 1890 when a 1270 foot shaft was created looking for copper but discovered gold instead. By 1901 a mining camp named “Haynes” grew to a whopping population of 30 individuals. They even had a Post Office from 1908-1922. As always the gold disappeared after awhile and so did the camp. Ninety-one years later (1981) Terry & Don Robertson discovered the location and began collecting important icons of the industrial revolution. I am sure some have visited this location and you can spend a good amount of time wandering around. They offer tours of the mine at times as well as gold panning, however, this trip is for the collection. The temperature at the time of our visit should be pleasant around mid 60s upon arrival and getting into the 70/80s by lunchtime. (OK it’s a guess)
